A new play area has opened for families to enjoy in Fazeley delivered through a £100,000 investment from the Community Infrastructure Levy fund.
The facility, on the Victory Terrace recreation ground, includes a fantastic range of equipment including swings, slides, a wooden tower, boat and climbing wall, roundabout, interactive play panels, balancing beam, agility trail and accessible picnic bench.
£99,454 of the Lichfield District Council funding is from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is collected from developers and reinvested into local infrastructure to help communities grow and thrive, a further £900 was allocated unspent historic S106 funds which must have been spent in Fazeley parish.
Fazeley Town Council applied to LDC for the CIL money which paid for the play area equipment during the funding round allocated at February 2026 Cabinet.
Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing & Local Plan, said:
“This play area in Fazeley has been sought after by residents for a long time and I’m pleased that £100,000 of CIL money, which is given to us by developers across Lichfield District, has gone towards making it happen.
“It is a brilliant space for the local community and will be used by people for many years to come.”
Councillor John Hill, Mayor of Fazeley and Fazeley district councillor said:
“We’d tried previously to secure CIL money for the Play Area Project but didn’t quite meet the criteria.
“Rather than abandoning the project, Alex and I decided to give it another go and I was overjoyed when the news came through that our application had been approved.
“Judging by children’s laughter, smiles and excitement at the play area it certainly has their seal of approval.”
The project is part of the council’s wider investment of more than £1million of CIL funding in local facilities and infrastructure.
These include £200,000 to Chasetown Football Club towards the delivery of the Changing Room project, £3,000 to Wiggington and Hopwas Parish Council for the Hopwas defibrillator project, £75,000 to South Staffordshire College towards the delivery of the Lichfield College Art Gallery and £105,000 to Burntwood Rugby Club for pitch enhancement and maintenance.
