Residents in Lichfield District are invited to sign up or renew subscriptions to have their garden waste removed next year.
The service will provide up to 23 fortnightly collections between the end of January 2024 and mid-December 2024.
The charge is £40 regardless of when subscription commences but by signing up before the end of January residents will benefit from the maximum number of collections.
Green waste includes:
- grass cuttings
- plants and weeds
- flowers
- prunings
- hedge clippings
- leaves and bark
- pot plants
- pond plants
Last year our staff collected 7,967 tonnes of garden waste from homes across Lichfield district.
The service saves residents from having to take their garden waste to the household waste recycling centre themselves or pay for it to be removed privately.
It is also good for the environment as all the collected garden waste goes to an outdoor composting facility (Greener Composting, Wall) and is used on local farms.
Some residents are interested in the Garden Waste Service but worry they won’t have enough waste to fill a bin. We encourage them to share with a neighbour with one resident subscribing and then sharing the cost.
Payment can be made by debit/credit card or by direct debit and residents will be sent a garden waste sticker to put on their garden waste bin and present with the stickered side facing the road on collection day.
Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste, Recycling, Ecology and Climate Change, Councillor Mike Wilcox said: “Garden waste collection is a popular service, and we are now inviting residents to sign up for 2024.
“The annual cost is good value for money, and the same whenever you sign up, so we encourage residents to subscribe before the first collection for maximum benefit.”
You can sign up for garden waste collection online or call the Tamworth and Lichfield Joint Waste Service on 0345 002 0022.
