Key facts:

We will respond to reports of the following on district council owned land and adopted highways:

  • Overgrown grassed areas/verges
  • Issues in district council owned play or sports areas
  • Issues with flowerbeds
  • Issues with trees or hedges
  • Moss/weeds
  • Hedges that border land owned by Lichfield District Council*.

Depending on whether the issue is a danger to the public, we will either send out a crew to address it as soon as possible, or address it when our grounds maintenance team are next in the area.

Hedges on public highways

Hedges that border a public highway are normally the responsibility of the person who owns or lives on the land next to them - the owner must make sure hedges on the edge of their property do not block the pavement or road, cover road signs, hide streetlights, or make it hard for people to see when driving.

This can include landowners of housing estates (e.g. management companies), farmers who own fields, private land or home owners, or parish councils who own public assets such as parks or open spaces.

If a hedge is causing a problem and the landowner is not dealing with it, Staffordshire County Council, as the highway authority, will write to them to instruct them to cut it back. If the owner still does not act, Staffordshire County Council can do the work and charge the owner for the cost.

If you see a hedge causing an obstruction or a safety risk, you can report it to Staffordshire County Council.

If you know who the landowner is, including ourselves, you can report it directly to them. You can use this form to ask us to cut back a hedge that borders a Lichfield District Council owned piece of land.

*We maintain some hedges on behalf of parish councils, but where we do so, we do it based on the regularity they ask us to go out. As such, if you feel it needs cutting back more frequently you will need to report it to the parish council who will then instruct us to go out more regularly.

Lichfield City council owned parks

Lichfield City Council manages Festival Gardens, Pool Walk, Remembrance Gardens, the Friary clock tower, the Borrowcop Gazebo, Chancellor Law's mausoleum and the 'closed' churchyards at St Michael's and St Chad's churches - you can report issues to the city council.

Private land

We do not maintain private land - if the issue is on private land, please report it to the land owner.

As part of this form, we will ask you for your email address. This is so we can keep you up to date on what we will do to resolve/address your issue.
