Due to the exceptionally hot weather and health alert, we’ve taken the decision to cancel recycling and garden waste collections tomorrow (Thursday 25 June 2026) for health and safety reasons.

We’re really sorry to anyone this affects and thank you in advance for your understanding. With temperatures forecast to reach 35°C after lunch, we need to ensure our crews have completed their rounds before it becomes too hot to work safely.

To do this, we’ll be asking our recycling and garden crews to help on black bin collections, and we’ll also be diverting all the waste collection vehicles we can to help with black bins. Any remaining crews will help with food waste caddy deliveries in the specialist caddy delivery vehicles we’ve hired for this purpose.

If your blue bin or bag is due to be emptied tomorrow, we’ll empty it on your next normal blue bin day, when we’ll also take extra side waste. If your garden waste bin is due to be emptied, we’ll empty it on your next normal brown bin day and we’ll also put on an additional collection at the end of the year to make up for your missed collection.

We are so sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for supporting our efforts to look after our crews during this period of extreme heat.

We are in contact with all known rough sleepers in the district to encourage them into accommodation during the current weather conditions, as part of our severe weather emergency protocol, which is now active. If you are concerned about a rough sleeper who you feel needs help, please call us on 01543 308000 or outside of office hours call 01527 406643. Find out more about our severe weather emergency protocol.

Anyone selling or authorising the selling of alcohol needs a personal licence. A personal licence makes sure that anyone running or managing a business that sells or supplies alcohol does so responsibly.

If you want to run a business that is licensed to sell alcohol you must have a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). To be a DPS you must hold a personal licence.

You do not need a personal licence to be employed in a pub or other business that sells alcohol. The licence holder does not need to be on the premises or oversee every sale, however, we strongly suggest that the Designated Premises Supervisor provides written authorisation for members of staff to sell alcohol in their absence. Premises may have more than one personal licence holder.

You don't need a personal licence to sell alcohol under a temporary event notice (TEN), but if you do hold a personal licence, the number of TENs you can apply for in a year increases from 5 to 50.

A personal licence has no expiry date and can be transferred between regions and premises. However, you must inform the issuing authority if you need to make any changes to your licence.

For more information download the licensing act government guidance or read our licensing policy.
