Car theft is on the rise across the country, with thieves using increasingly sophisticated methods to steal vehicles - especially keyless cars.

There are however simple and effective ways to protect your car and make it a less attractive target.

Key tips to keeping your car safe

  • Block keyless car theft – use a Faraday pouch to stop thieves from intercepting your key fob’s signal.
  • Use visual deterrents – a steering wheel lock, pedal lock, or gear stick lock makes your car much harder to steal. Visible cameras/smart doorbells can also play a key role.
  • Secure your driveway – install rise-and-fall bollards or a lockable gate to physically prevent thieves from driving away with your car. Visible cameras/smart doorbells can also play a key role.
  • Install a tracker – a GPS tracking device increases the chances of recovering your vehicle if it’s stolen.
  • Park smart – whenever possible, park in well-lit areas, a garage, or a secured driveway, ideally with a gate or bollards if possible.
  • Stay vigilant – be aware of crime trends, check with local Neighbourhood Watch groups, and report any suspicious activity.

This section contains more detailed advice on each security measure, local suppliers, and police crime statistics.

Even if the measures detailed in this section cost a few hundred pounds, compared to the cost of your car, your insurance premium for replacing it, the hours of police and insurance company time and all the associated hassle, they are a steal!

Stay one step ahead and keep your car safe!
