Lichfield is a Purple Flag city
Lichfield has been awarded the prestigious Purple Flag award in September 2024 by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM).
The Purple Flag recognises town and city centres across the world which offer an entertaining, diverse, safe, and enjoyable night out.
Lichfield’s evening and night-time economy met or exceeded more than 30 judging criteria to qualify for Purple Flag status. This means that Lichfield has been officially recognised for its commitment to offer a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and cultural activities while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and residents.
Ojay McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Town and City Management, said:
“This achievement reflects the city's outstanding commitment to delivering a safe, vibrant, and well-managed evening and night-time economy. Lichfield should be commended for the dedication and enthusiasm demonstrated by the partnership.”
Who benefits from Purple Flag status?
Purple Flag status benefits businesses, residents, and visitors in Lichfield city. The project is led by Lichfield District Council and is supported by a dedicated working group made up of night-time economy representatives including Staffordshire Police, local businesses, arts and cultural venues as well as the Late-Night Listeners, a local volunteer group. The group meets to discuss how to further enhance Lichfield’s nighttime economy.
