Applications affecting heritage
National planning guidance requires all applications that could affect the historic environment to include what is known as a heritage statement.
We have produced some guidance to help applicants understand what they need to do.
Every heritage statement needs to show that the historic environment record (HER) has been consulted. This is to ensure that all the heritage assets affected by an application have been considered. Staffordshire County Council manage the Staffordshire's HER, which includes Lichfield District.
Staffordshire’s HER can be accessed online via the Heritage Gateway website. Further information can be found on Staffordshire County Council’s website. You can request more detailed information or specialist research by emaill.
There is further guidance on the Historic England web-site which includes
- Statements of heritage significance: analysing significance in heritage assets
- Managing significance in decision taking in the historic environment
- The setting of heritage assets
