Fire in wate truck
We recently had a fire in one of our waste trucks caused by batteries or vapes - please do not throw batteries or vapes into any of your bins as doing so could cause fires.

We’ve recently experienced several fires at the BIFFA waste processing facility in Aldridge - each one causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and putting staff at serious risk.

These fires were caused by vapes or batteries being incorrectly disposed of in household waste bins.

It is really important not to put vapes in your household bins as they contain built-in batteries which become extremely dangerous when compacted. Under pressure, batteries can ignite - and that's exactly what has happened.

Why this matters:

  • Fires have shut down recycling and waste operations, stopping us from emptying our lorries.
  • This has led to missed bin collections across the area.
  • It puts waste crews, plant workers, and emergency services at risk.

What to do with vapes and batteries:

  • Never put vapes and batteries in any of your household bins.
  • Collect used vapes up at home, then take them to a household recycling centre with a dedicated electricals or battery disposal point.
  • Visit www.recycleyourelectricals to find out where to recycle vapes and batteries locally.

Please help us keep people safe and collections running smoothly.

Above all, please never recycle vapes or batteries in your household bins.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
