Air quality management

Planning applications and air quality

New developments should use the national planning policy framework to ensure:

  • developments are suitable
  • air quality management areas are not adversely affected
  • new exposure isn’t introduced to areas of existing poor air quality.

We recommend that air quality impact assessments follow the latest guidance from Environmental Protection UK:

Assessments should also consider the cumulative effect of the proposed development alongside permitted developments in the area.

Monitoring data for air quality modelling purposes can be found in the appendices of our most recent annual status report.

Before applying, please email us to agree the scope and methodology of any air quality assessment in advance of commencing work.
