We have been named as a finalist for Local Authority of the Year at the MJ AwardsCouncil of the Year at the ISE Public Sector Transformation Awards, and in the Innovation category at the LGC Awards.

The national recognition reflects how far we have come in recent years, with sustained improvements across services, stronger financial resilience and a continued focus on supporting communities.

Over the past few years, we have delivered a wide-ranging programme of change guided by our long-term vision, Lichfield District 2050. This has included reshaping services, investing in communities and improving how residents access support, helping to build a more modern and responsive council focused on delivering real outcomes locally.

Residents are seeing the impact of this work in many ways. Support for people facing homelessness is now provided on the same day they approach us, while faster digital processes are helping residents access council tax support more quickly when they need it most.

Investment has continued in parks, leisure facilities and community spaces, alongside major regeneration projects that are bringing new homes, jobs and opportunities to the district. Improvements to customer access, including new digital channels, are also making it easier for residents to get help and information.

Alongside service improvements, we have strengthened its financial position through new ways of working and a focus on efficiency, helping to protect frontline services while continuing to invest locally. Since 2021, we have undergone significant cultural and organisational change, improving performance, strengthening leadership and building a more confident and resilient council.

The LGC Awards shortlist highlights our work to improve access to financial support through our same-day council tax submission process, helping residents get quicker decisions and support at important times.

The shortlisting reflects our ambition to continue improving services while keeping residents at the heart of decision-making, helping to build a greener, healthier and more prosperous district for the future.

Councillor Doug Pullen, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for three national awards. This recognition reflects the hard work of our staff, partners and communities, and the progress we’ve made together over recent years. What matters most is what this means for our residents; better services, faster support when it’s needed, and continued investment in our communities. We remain focused on delivering real improvements locally and making Lichfield District a great place to live, work and visit.”

Simon Fletcher, Chief Executive of Lichfield District Council, said:

“This recognition is a credit to our staff, partners and communities who work together every day to make a difference across the district. We’ve worked hard to improve services, modernise how we operate and ensure residents can access support quickly and easily. We’re proud of the progress made and are focused on continuing to build on it.”
