Three brand-new Padel courts have been opened today in Lichfield’s Beacon Park, giving residents and visitors the chance to enjoy this popular sport in the heart of the city.
Lichfield District Councillors and staff joined Padel enthusiasts for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the outdoor, floodlit facility which enhances the park’s leisure offer and encourages residents to be more active, more often and for longer.
A blend of tennis and squash, Padel is played mainly as doubles on an enclosed court. It’s easy to learn and suitable for all ages and abilities.
Councillor Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Major Projects, said:
“We are delighted to open these fantastic new courts in Beacon Park.
“Padel is a great sport which has boomed in popularity in recent years and we have already had a great deal of interest from local people.
“The Padel courts are Lichfield District Council’s latest investment in Beacon Park creating another opportunity for people of all ages to get active.”
Owned by Lichfield District Council and managed by Active Lichfield District, the Padel courts are open seven days a week and are available to book on a simple pay-as-you-go basis, with no membership required.
Players can enjoy 60 minute sessions, enjoy floodlit evening play and access the courts using a secure digital entry code provided through the Playtomic app.
Sessions are competitively priced at £16 per hour during off-peak times and £20 per hour during peak periods, offering an affordable way to enjoy one of the country’s fastest-growing sports.
