Lichfield District Council has launched its biggest-ever investment in the voluntary and community sector, with £1.17 million available over the next three years to support organisations making a difference across the district.
Voluntary and community organisations are now being invited to apply for funding through the council's new Community and Voluntary Sector Funding Programme, with applications open for six weeks.
The programme builds on the success of the council's previous investment of £787,288, which supported 14 local organisations to deliver projects and services that have made a lasting difference across the district. Over the past two years alone, those organisations have recruited more than 200 new volunteers, provided support or guidance in more than 3,000 cases, helped improve the mental health and wellbeing of more than 3,300 young people, and supported more than 300 adults to improve their wellbeing.
This latest investment reaffirms the council's commitment to working alongside the voluntary and community sector, recognising the vital role local organisations play in supporting residents, tackling inequalities, bringing communities together and helping people live healthier, happier lives.
Councillor Richard Cox, Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection, said:
"Our voluntary and community organisations are one of Lichfield District's greatest strengths. Every day they provide support, create opportunities and make a real difference to people's lives, often reaching those who need help the most.
"The impact of our previous funding programme has shown just how valuable these organisations are to our communities. This is our biggest-ever investment in the sector because we know that by working together we can achieve even more for residents across Lichfield District.

Funding is available for projects that support one or more of the four priorities within the Lichfield District 2050 Strategy – creating confident, prosperous, active and green communities. For the first time, the programme also includes a dedicated Community Transport Fund to help improve access to employment, healthcare, education and community services for residents across the district..
