Success stories
How has the community benefited from our contracts? Here are a few examples:
New leisure centre at Stychbrook Park
ReCreation helped plan the Stychbrook Park leisure centre and supported the community by funding a specialist bike for people with disabilities and helping with the Us Girls programme to encourage girls to be more active. Meanwhile, Stepnell built the new leisure centre and supported local communities by working with schools and colleges, supporting on the Greenway project, and volunteering locally to name just a few examples. Learn more about how ReCreation and Stepnell delivered £2.75 million in social value in the video below.
Birmingham Road multi-storey car park demolition
Cawarden recently completed a contract to knock down the underused multi-story car park on Birmingham Road. This is part of larger plans to create a new public plaza in the city centre. They delivered a total of £1.13 million of social value for the local community, as shown in our case study video below. They have recycled 99% of materials in the car park demolition, donated a generous food donation to a local food bank, and funded the kit for a local dance school to represent Team England in an international dance competition.
Young climate champions at Shenstone Primary
Pupils at Greysbrooke Primary School in Shenstone took part in a fun and hands-on “School of the Future” day. The day focused on climate change and how we can help the planet. It was organised by Lichfield District Council, Shenstone Parish Council, HI Group, and Climate Ambassadors.
In the morning, the Year 6 pupils shared ideas on how to make their school more eco-friendly. In the afternoon, they worked in teams to redesign the school grounds. They had a pretend budget of £1,000 to spend on green features like bug hotels, bird boxes, and ground source heat pumps.
The teams presented their plans to a group of judges. Awards were given for the best design and smartest use of money. All teams focused on ideas like outdoor learning spaces, helping wildlife, and reusing materials.
This event is part of the Our Community Can programme here at Lichfield District Council. It supports our plan to be more environmentally friendly by 2050. It also helps the local community learn about a possible low-carbon heating system for Shenstone. Organisers hope to run more events like this to help young people become future climate leaders.
Supporting green communities
AKG Employment is also helping the environment in Lichfield. They teamed up with the National Energy Foundation to give people advice on saving energy and lowering their bills. Through the Better Housing Better Health scheme, 50 local residents got personal support to make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
The team helped families register for special energy services and gave tips on saving money. The project saved the community over £6,000 in social value and helped many families during the colder months when heating costs are higher. This shows AKG Employment’s strong promise to help the environment and support local families in real, helpful ways.
