Vote by proxy

Emergency proxy votes

The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on the sixth working day before an election – which was 5pm on Wednesday 8 December 2021 for the polls taking place on Thursday 16 December 2021.

However, if you are taken ill or get unexpected work commitments after the deadline for applying for a proxy vote for an election which prevents you from attending the polling station on polling day, you can appoint someone to vote for you. You will need a doctor or employer to support your application.

This must be something that you weren't aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline.

These applications can be made up to 5pm on polling day.

Completed applications must be sent to and reach us before 5pm on Thursday 6 May 2021.
