Key facts:

We inspect and rate all food businesses in the district in line with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) food hygiene rating scheme. Visit the Food Standards Agency website to find out how scores are calculated.

If you own/run a food business in Lichfield District that was inspected recently, and you believe the food hygiene rating your business was awarded doesn't to accurately reflect the hygiene standards and management controls in place at the time of inspection, you can appeal. Your business food hygiene rating will not be published while your appeal is being considered.

You have 21 days (including weekends and bank holidays) from the date of your inspection report to submit an appeal against all or part of your inspection report.

After we receive an appeal request, our food team will carry out a review within 21 working days. As part of this a senior officer will review the findings of the officer who carried out the inspection to ensure their judgement/your food hygiene rating is fair based on the evidence collected during the inspection. We do not revisit premises as part of the appeal.

Our food team will contact you within 21 days to let you know the outcome of your appeal.

There is no charge for an appeal.

Alternatively, find out how to ask us to re-rate your premises (this costs £200) or how you can let customers know why your rating does not reflect the standards at your business.
