Anti-social behaviour and how we can help

The following things are not necessarily anti-social behaviour and are often best resolved by speaking to your neighbours and coming to a compromise - if you feel comfortable doing so.

Ball games

Children have a right to play in their own neighbourhoods but their games should not lead to damage to other people’s property, or cause a noise disturbance late at night or early in the morning. If you have children, encourage them to be respectful of other people’s property, use a soft ball and, where possible, play on open space or play areas. 

Parking disputes

As long as your vehicle is taxed and you are not contravening any other traffic laws, you are allowed to park anywhere on a public highway where it is legal to do so. 

There is no automatic right to park outside your home and we cannot intervene if vehicles are legally parked.

If your neighbour’s parking is causing you difficulties, try politely speaking to them about the issue and this may resolve the problem. 

If your dispute involves cars parked on public highways, or any other dispute involving a public highway or pavement you should contact Staffordshire County Council highways team by email or by calling 0300 111 8000.

Littering, dog fouling, graffiti or fly tipping

Noise, smoke or bonfires

If you have a complaint about issues like noise, bonfires or smoke, please find out more in our environmental health section.

Other issues

• Please report any criminal matters such as criminal damage, harassment or speeding vehicles to the police on 999 if you or someone else is in immediate danger, or if a crime is in progress. If it is not an emergency, call 101 to report the incident to the police or contact Crimestoppers to give information about crime anonymously.
• If the dispute is related to fire or fireworks you should contact the Fire Service on 999 in an emergency or on 0300 330 1000 for general enquiries.
• If your dispute is related to littering, dog fouling, noise or fly tipping you should contact the environmental health team by email or by calling 01543 308725. More information about how to report environmental health issues and what they can help you with can be found on the environmental health pages of our website.
• If you have a neighbour dispute regarding trees or hedges, you should contact the arboricultural team by contact the arboricultural team by email or call them on 01543 308207.
• If you are concerned for the safety or a child or young person you should contact Staffordshire County Council's first response team on 0800 131 3126 or 0345 604 2886 for out of hours emergencies.You can find out more about safeguarding and what to do if you have concerns on the safeguarding page of our website.
• If you are concerned for the safety of a vulnerable adult please contact 0345 604 2719 or 0345 604 2886 for out of hours emergencies. 
• If you feel you are a victim of hate crime, we recommend you call the police on 999 if you or someone else is in immediate danger, and for support contact Uniting Staffordshire Against Hate (USAH) through the USAH website or by calling 0330 0881 339.
