Concerned about e-scooters and e-bikes in your area?
If e-scooters and e-bikes are being ridden illegally or antisocially in your neighbourhood, please report it.
You may also be tempted to post about what you have seen on Facebook or other community social media groups. While sharing information can feel helpful, a social media post is not a report to the police and does not give officers the information they need to take action.
Repeated posts can also make an issue appear more widespread than it is, increase worry within a community and alert those involved that residents are watching them.
Report it, don't just post it
If you want something done, the most useful thing you can do is report what you have seen. Every report helps Staffordshire Police to:
- understand where e-scooters are being used.
- identify repeat riders, locations and hotspots.
- build intelligence about what is happening.
- plan patrols and targeted operations.
- use enforcement powers where appropriate.
One report may not result in an officer immediately attending, particularly where nobody is in immediate danger. That does not mean nothing happens with the information.
When several people report incidents in the same area, those individual reports can build a much clearer picture and support targeted action.
Facebook tells your neighbours. Reporting tells the people who can do something about it.
How to report
If someone is in immediate danger, a serious incident is taking place or there is an immediate risk to the public, call 999.
For non-emergency e-scooter or e-bike reports, call 101 or email lichfieldpolice@staffordshire.police.uk.
If e-scooter use forms part of wider, ongoing antisocial behaviour in your neighbourhood, you can also report the ASB to us.
When reporting, provide as much useful information as you safely can, such as the date and time, location, description of the rider and scooter, direction of travel and whether the same person or scooter has been seen before.
Never put yourself at risk to gather information, take photographs or confront a rider.
