If you are homeless, but do not have priority need we will not have a duty to offer you temporary accommodation, unless our severe weather protocol is active.
If you find yourself in this situation, we would encourage you to reach out to family and friends to see if you can stay with them, whilst you look for somewhere more permanent to stay - including finding your own private rent, or if you are eligible, bidding for properties through our housing register.
If you cannot stay with family or friends, we would encourage you to consider finding a private rented room, and there are a number of websites that advertise rooms for rent locally including:
- Cohabitas
Alternatively, you may want to consider renting a room in a house in multiple occupation (known as an HMO) which is a type of rental property where people who are unrelated rent a private bedroom, but share bathroom and kitchen facilities - find out more.
If an HMO isn't suitable as you need additional support, for example with substance use or if you are leaving prison, we can help you consider a hostel - find out more.
If you are a young person (under 18) and are facing homelessness, please visit our please housing support for young people section.
