Vote by proxy

Applying to vote by proxy means you are appointing someone else to vote on your behalf if you can't get to your polling station on polling day.

  • The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm at least six working days before that election.
  • In some circumstances you can apply for an emergency proxy vote.
  • The individual you nominate to act as your proxy must themselves be registered to vote and has agreed to vote on your behalf.
  • You must notify them of the candidate or referendum outcome you want to vote for.

Acting as someone's proxy?

  • You’ll need to take your own ID when you go to vote on someone else’s behalf.
  • You do not need to take theirs.

Please note you can only apply to vote by proxy if you are already registered to vote at your current address.
