The Lichfield District 'find my loved one' scheme is a simple, voluntary initiative designed to help people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and similar conditions stay safe when out in the community.
Participants are provided with a wristband, lanyard, or keyring fob containing a small NFC (near field communication) chip.
When tapped with a smartphone, the chip safely displays essential information including
- The person’s name or preferred name.
- A short message (e.g. “I have dementia” or “I may become confused”).
- An emergency contact number.
The scheme does not track location, does not require charging, and does not store information in any central system. It is a practical support tool, to allow people to help an individual if they ever get lost or confused.
It's a bit like having a piece of paper in your pocket with your name and address on it, but it's long lasting, durable and is recognised by emergency services and local organisations.
The scheme is free and open to:
- Anyone living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or related conditions.
- Individuals who may be at risk of becoming confused or lost.
- Their families, carers, and support networks.
This scheme is delivered through local voluntary groups and the Lichfield District Community Safety Partnership through funding provided by the Staffordshire Commissioner to support safer communities.
