You don't have to be living on the street to be homeless. You may be legally classed as homeless if you are sleeping on a friend's sofa, staying in a hostel, suffering from overcrowding, or other poor housing conditions.

If you are sleeping rough, or know of someone who is sleeping rough, find out about our rough sleeper support.

If you are homeless, or at risk of being made homeless within the next 56 days, you can register as homeless - visit our Lichfield District Homes website and choose the 'register as homeless or at threat of homelessness within 56 days' button.

Once you have completed the online form, our duty officer will contact you on the same or following day (depending on when you register), or the following Monday (if you register over the weekend), to carry out an initial assessment of your situation.

This section sets out what you can expect if you register as homeless and advice other important advice if you are concerned you may become homeless.
