Garden waste service
About your garden waste bin
Please use your garden waste to dispose of leaves, weeds, tree prunings, shrub prunings, grass, hedge cuttings, short branches, twigs, garden plants and windfall fruit or home-grown vegetables (that have not been into the house/used in food preparation).
Please do not put the following in your brown bin:
- food waste (including vegetable peelings)
- large branches
- large pieces of wood
- soil or turf
- pet waste
- plant pots
- biodegradable liners
- plastic bags
If the crew report that your bin has the wrong items in it, we will not return before the next scheduled collection. You will also need to make sure you have removed the wrong items before you put it out again on your next scheduled collection.
Please make sure your sticker is visible
Your garden waste sticker needs to be visible to the crew when they are passing in their trucks. If they cannot see the sticker the bin will not be emptied so please make sure the sticker is facing the road when you put your bin out.
Don't use liners, bags or sacks in your garden waste bin
Whilst we understand you wish to keep your bin clean, all garden waste must go into the bin loose.
The reprocessor cannot accept bags because they get entangled in the machinery that shreds the garden waste, and the shredded plastic also contaminates the compost which is produced.
Too many brown bins?
If you only have one garden waste bin and do not subscribe to the service, we are sorry but we do not offer a collection service for the original garden waste bin supplied to each home.
This is because you, or someone else who may move into your property in the future, may wish to sign up to the scheme at a later date. If you don't want to sign up, why not use your garden waste bin for storage?
If you have multiple garden waste bins that you no longer require, we will collect the excess bin(s) leaving you with one garden waste bin. Please contact us on 0345 002 0022 to arrange this.
Extra garden waste
We are not able to take any extra garden waste or empty bins that are overloaded or too heavy.
If the crew report a bin as heavy/overloaded/has a raised lid we will not return until the next scheduled collection. Please ensure the extra waste is removed from the bin so it can be emptied the next time.
If you regularly have extra garden waste why not sign up for a second bin?
We provide assisted collections to help people who are unable to move their bins to the kerbside and have no one else (aged 16+) living in their house who can help them to do this. If you currently receive assisted collections for your black/blue bins, we will provide the same service for your garden waste bin and you do not need to apply again.
If you have not already applied, but need help getting your bins to the kerbside, please apply online.
