Plastic film - coming 2027
We will collect soft plastics from households from March 2027, as part of the government's simpler recycling initiative.
We are working closely with our waste contractor to prepare for this change and keeping a close eye on trials happening elsewhere - for example soft plastics are being collected from households in Newcastle as part of a pilot scheme.
While soft plastics are not currently included in our contract, our waste contractor is aware of the requirement and is working to deliver it by 2027.
What can you do now
Even though we don’t collect soft plastics at the kerbside yet, you can still recycle them:
- Supermarket collection points – most major supermarkets have bins for soft plastics - visit our A - Z of local recycling points
- Your nearest household recycling centres (or tip) – accepted at all local sites
We’ll provide regular updates as we move closer to 2027.
