Request a review of a decision
There are limited social homes to rent within Lichfield District.
Because of this our housing allocation scheme has been designed to give priority to applicants in the greatest level of housing need, and to make the best use of the social homes available. Our housing allocation scheme was last updated in July 2023.
When we assess your application, we will decide:
- Whether you are eligible to join the housing register
- What priority band you should be awarded
- Whether your circumstances affect your housing need or priority
We will always explain how we have reached our decision.
If you are not yet on the housing register
We assess applications using the information and supporting evidence available at the time.
You do not need to wait for medical assessments, care assessments or other professional reports before applying, however you should supply any additional information or evidence within 28 days of making your application. If your application is closed because the required information or evidence has not been provided, it will not normally be reopened.
If further evidence becomes available after your application has been closed, just reapply at this point - we will then assess your circumstances using the information and evidence available at that time.
If you have an active housing register application
If your circumstances change, or you obtain new information or supporting evidence, you should tell us as soon as possible.
Examples include:
- A change in your medical circumstances
- A change in your household composition
- New information about your housing conditions
- Additional supporting evidence that was not previously available
We will reassess your application using the new information provided and decide whether it affects your housing need or priority. Any reassessment will be carried out in line with the Housing Allocation Scheme.
Please note that providing new information does not automatically mean your priority band will change.
Requesting a review
A review is different from a reassessment.
You can request a review if you believe we have not made the correct decision based on the information available at the time, or if you feel the decision was not made fairly or in accordance with our housing allocation scheme.
You can request a review of:
- A decision about your eligibility to join the housing register
- The priority band awarded to your application
- A decision about your housing need or priority
- The closure of your application
Reviews are carried out by an officer who was not involved in making the original decision.
You must request a review within 28 calendar days of being notified of the decision.
To request a review, speak to your housing officer or email LDHenquiries@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
If you are still unhappy
Once you have received a review decision, if you feel we have not carried out the review in a fair or balanced way, or if you feel that the way we have served you is not in line with our customer promise, you can make a formal complaint.
