Recycle your food waste every week

Our weekly food waste recycling service is now available.

As part of the Government's Simpler Recycling initiative, residents can now recycle food waste from home every week, helping to reduce landfill, cut carbon emissions and increase recycling rates.

Your food waste caddy pack

Food waste caddy packs have now been delivered to households and include:

  • A small kitchen food waste caddy
  • A larger outdoor food waste caddy
  • A supply of caddy liners (for 52 weekly collections)
  • Information on how to use the service

Let us know if you have not received your caddy pack or it is damaged.

Using your food waste caddies

Your food waste caddy is collected every week, making it the best place for food waste. Instead of leaving food waste sitting in your black bin for up to two weeks.

Simply place your food scraps and leftovers into the kitchen caddy, transfer them to your outdoor caddy when full, and present the outdoor caddy for collection on your scheduled collection day.

Using your food waste caddy helps to:

  • Reduce smells in your black bin
  • Keep your bin cleaner
  • Reduce mess
  • Lower the chance of attracting flies

There is no need to sign up for the service, you can start using your food waste caddies straight away and present weekly for collection on your normal collection day.

This is a UK-wide change, not a local decision. It forms part of the Government’s plans to reduce landfill, cut carbon emissions and improve recycling across the country.

The government's simpler recycling initiative requires that all local councils roll out a food waste service.
