What can and can't go in your caddy?

Please use your food waste caddies to recycle your:

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Tea bag and coffee grounds
  • Leftovers and out of date food
  • Bread, cakes and biscuits
  • Eggs and dairy produce
  • Meat and bones
  • Rice, pasta, beans

We will provide you with a roll of caddy liners in your caddy pack, which we recommend you use to line your kitchen caddy before you start to fill it up.

When it’s full, just tie it at the top and pop it in your outdoor caddy – the liner will be removed before the food waste is processed – find out more about caddy liners.

Please do not put the following items in your caddies:

  • Anything plastic (other than your caddy liners – these can go in)
  • Anything glass
  • Anything metal
  • Excess liquids (oils, fats, soups and drinks)
  • Nappies
  • Garden waste
  • Any other general household waste

If we see the wrong items in your caddy, our crews won’t be able to empty it. Instead, they will leave a tag on your caddy to explain why.

This is because our crews empty over 16,000 bins, bags and caddies every day and they can’t stop to remove wrong items or they would not finish their rounds.

If your outdoor caddy is tagged, please remove the wrong item and put your caddy out again the following week, we are sorry but we won’t come back again to empty caddies that were contaminated.
